Physical activity
Many women still live in belief that providing care to others has priority over caring for themselves.
Regular physical activity is proven to help prevent and manage diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and several cancers. It also helps prevent hypertension, maintain healthy body weight and can improve mental health, quality of life and well-being.
Physical activity refers to all movement. Popular ways to be active include walking, cycling, wheeling, sports, active recreation and play, and can be done at any level of skill and for enjoyment by everybody. [1]
Even fairly small amounts of activity will reduce mortality in older women. However, sedentary women seemed to be a selected group with more medical problems and a less healthy lifestyle.[2]
In a study of physical activity and mortality in postmenopausal women[3], women who reported regular physical activity were at significantly reduced risk of death during follow-up compared with women who did not.
