When you are joining to a group or arranging walking/hiking with someone, you should check:

  • slow/fast tempo of the person or group
  • destination (what kind of terrain is it?)
  • distance (is it in line with your shape?)

Adjust the path/tempo/distance/terrain to your shape, don’t let others to dictate it by their shape, since then you’ll soon give up because you’ll be exhausted instead being full of energy.


We encourage you to make sure you take care of your safety.

It is smart to:

  • walk in groups of 2 or more
  • use dogs for protection*. Dogs of course need appropriate schooling and your time, but give a lot in return. Have in mind that some dogs actually need your protection and are in no position to be able to provide safety for you.
  • Have appropriate equipment when needed (shoes, proper clothes, lamps, food for longer tour etc.)
  • More people on the route may mean safer place to be active
